After breakfast we headed to Ho Chi Min's mausoleum. Strict etiquette. Lots of military police. It was kinda creepy, but he was an amazing leader for his people, so I was glad to honor him.
Also visited the Temple of Literature, an ancient center for Confucius learning. Our guide bought us green bean cake, a type of candy, to try. It almost reminded us of halavah, but with a better texture.
Huge bundles of wires are strung across doorways and speakers broadcast propaganda every day.
Wonderful lunch at a restaurant. So far all meals are served family style and the food has been wonderful, fresh and tasty.
Spent several hours at the museum of ethnology which showcased the various ethnic minorities in Vietnam - 54 minorities. Wonderful gift shop with handicrafts made by the tribes and at wonderful prices.
After a wonderful dinner that included Susie's birthday, we stopped to watch the flag lowering at Ho Chi Min's mausoleum.
Our tour does not include the Hanoi Hilton, but our guide stopped the bus to allow us to view the John McCain memorial. Ten planes were shot down that day.
Bruce and I are impressed with the friendly diverse makeup of our group of travelers. There are three single people, a father and college age daughter and several couples. Lots of laughter and comaraderie even though we have only been together for two days. We have early departures and busy days ahead, but we are looking forward to all the new experiences.
